How can I sign up for Medicare?









I'm turning 65 and have employer coverage - do I have to sign up for Medicare?



Ask your employer or union benefits administrator if they require you to sign up for Medicare if both of these apply:


 



  • You (or your spouse) are currently working.
  • You're covered by an employer or union group health plan based on that employment.



If the employer doesn't require you to sign up for Medicare right away, you can sign up later during a Special Enrollment Period without a late enrollment penalty.  





What is Medicare Supplement Insurance?



A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy, sold by private companies, can help pay some of the health care costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Some Medigap policies also offer coverage for services that Original Medicare doesn't cover, like medical care when you travel outside the U.S
